Dental Emergencies

Dentist24 clinics are available on Saturdays, Sundays, and every day of the year for emergency incidents. Having handled numerous cases, we are here to assist you in such a difficult time. Emergencies include unbearable tooth pain that does not subside after taking painkillers, bleeding, as well as certain aesthetic issues that may interfere with daily life.

Severe tooth pain requires immediate care to prevent serious complications and provide relief. Dental emergencies typically present in two forms:

 a) Severe tooth pain without swelling

 b) Swelling with or without tooth pain

 a) Severe tooth pain: This can either be a longstanding mild pain that suddenly intensifies or a pain that starts abruptly. The usual cause is teeth with deep cavities, deep fillings, or teeth with old, incomplete root canals. In this case, taking a strong painkiller, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Algofren (not acetaminophen-based drugs like Depon, which are ineffective for severe dental pain), is necessary, followed by contacting the dentist.

 b) Swelling: If swelling occurs along with pain, a strong painkiller and antibiotics will be needed. The dentist will prescribe the appropriate antibiotic and decide whether to perform dental treatment the same day or after the swelling subsides.

In both cases, the most common treatments are root canals or extractions.

Another urgent situation is bleeding, typically after an extraction or injury.

  • Apply a clean gauze or cloth to the bleeding area and apply pressure.
  • Tooth extraction (avulsion) can also occur after an injury, usually in young children. Try to reposition the tooth if possible. If you can't, keep the tooth in milk or saline solution and visit the dentist immediately.
  • If bleeding continues, seek emergency dental care.
